What makes a good pre-owned road bike?
Above all, one that fits: frame size and geometry matter more than weight. Then come the condition of frame and fork, the groupset (Shimano Dura-Ace or Ultegra, SRAM Red or Force), the wheelset and the wear on chain, cassette and brakes. Every pre-owned road bike at Berg en Baan is listed with its year, condition and component list as fitted, upgrades included, plus the mileage where known.
What is the difference between a climbing bike and an aero bike?
A climbing bike, such as the Cervélo R5, is built for the lowest possible weight, which counts on long climbs. An aero bike, such as the Cervélo S5 or the Colnago Y1Rs, is shaped for the lowest possible drag and is faster on flat roads. An all-rounder like the Specialized Tarmac SL8 or the Colnago V4Rs combines both.
What does a road bike cost at Berg en Baan, new or pre-owned?
Factory-new road bikes are currently for sale from €6,999 to €9,999. There is no premium pre-owned road bike for sale right now. Delivery in the Netherlands and Belgium is included in that price. Where the original retail price is known, it is shown with the bike, together with the percentage by which our price is below it.
What is the advantage of electronic shifting?
Electronic shifting (SRAM eTap AXS or Shimano Di2) is more precise, more consistent and needs less maintenance than mechanical shifting. At S-Works and ProTeam level it has been the standard for years.
Can you advise on the right frame size for my height?
Yes. Every listing states the frame size and the rider height it is intended for. If you are between two sizes, send us your height, your inside leg and the frame size of your current bike (brand, model and year) via WhatsApp.
Size guide (in Dutch)Do you deliver in Belgium too?
Yes. Delivery in Belgium is included in the price, just as in the Netherlands. The 14-day cooling-off period and the warranty apply in Belgium as well: the manufacturer’s warranty on a new bike, and twelve months of Berg en Baan warranty on a pre-owned bike we bought ourselves. What applies to a bike on consignment is stated with that bike.
