Frequently asked questions

Everything you want to know about Berg en Baan.

Range and price

Which bikes does Berg en Baan sell?

Berg en Baan sells premium road bikes, gravel bikes and mountain bikes, in two collections. New: factory-new bikes that have never been ridden, with the manufacturer’s warranty. Premium pre-owned: bikes that have been technically inspected, with a twelve-month Berg en Baan warranty. Currently for sale: bikes by Colnago, Santa Cruz and Specialized. Each listing states whether the bike is available for immediate delivery or expected. A bike that is expected can be ordered now; the delivery time is stated with the bike.

Why buy from Berg en Baan?

Because you know what you are buying. A new bike has never been ridden and carries the manufacturer's warranty. A premium pre-owned bike is technically inspected, comes from the first owner with the purchase receipt and has a twelve-month warranty. You pay one price, with delivery in the Netherlands and Belgium, and when you buy remotely you have a 14-day cooling-off period. You can view a bike by appointment in Son en Breugel, and you can trade in your own bike.

How much does a bike cost at Berg en Baan?

Factory-new bikes are currently for sale from €4,199 to €9,999. Premium pre-owned bikes are currently for sale from €4,395 to €5,250. Delivery in the Netherlands and Belgium is included in that price. Where the original retail price is known, it is shown with the bike, together with the percentage by which our price is below it.

Are the bikes technically inspected?

Yes. Every pre-owned bike is technically inspected and repaired where needed before it goes on sale. We grade its condition at one of three levels: excellent, very good or good. The first owner’s proof of purchase is on file. A factory-new bike has never been ridden and arrives exactly as it left the factory.

How Berg en Baan works

How do I know which frame size I need?

Every bike lists its frame size with the rider height that size is intended for. In the overview of all bikes you can enter your height and see only the bikes that fit. If you are between two sizes, ask us via WhatsApp.

Buying and paying

How do I buy a bike?

Via WhatsApp or email: every bike that is for sale has a button for each. That is where you ask your questions and agree on the purchase. Where the order button is shown with the bike, a bike that is available for immediate delivery can also be ordered directly on its page. You then receive the invoice by email. After payment the bike is delivered or you collect it.

View all bikes

How can I pay?

By bank transfer or by payment request (iDEAL or Tikkie). Cash payment is possible only on collection, up to the legally permitted amount. If you order with the order button, you pay on the basis of the invoice you receive by email. After payment the bike is delivered or you collect it. The bike remains the property of Berg en Baan until the full purchase price has been paid. If your employer or your business buys the bike, the invoice is made out in that name.

Can I pay in instalments?

You can spread the cost through your employer, if they take part: with a bike scheme or an interest-free loan for a bike. In the Netherlands the interest benefit is tax-free. We supply a quotation in the right name for this. You yourself pay by bank transfer or payment request.

Do I get an invoice showing VAT?

With a factory-new bike you receive an invoice in your name with VAT stated separately. With a pre-owned bike sold under the margin scheme, VAT is not stated separately on the invoice; the scheme requires this, and there is then no VAT to reclaim.

Delivery and viewing

What does delivery cost?

Nothing extra. Delivery in the Netherlands and Belgium is included in the price shown with the bike, also for a bike on consignment; no shipping or transport costs are added. Collection in Son en Breugel is possible by appointment, at the same price. Delivery outside the Netherlands and Belgium is agreed separately in advance.

When will my bike be delivered?

We agree the delivery day with you once payment has been received. A bike that is expected can be ordered now; the delivery time is stated with the bike, and we deliver it as soon as it has arrived. If you want to know in advance when a bike can be delivered, ask via WhatsApp or by phone.

Can I see a bike before I buy?

Yes. Every bike, factory-new or pre-owned, can be viewed by appointment in Son en Breugel. You make that appointment via WhatsApp. A pre-owned bike can also be test-ridden there; a bike that is expected can be ordered now and viewed as soon as it has arrived. If you conclude the purchase on location after viewing the bike there, it is not a distance purchase and the 14-day cooling-off period does not apply.

Warranty and returns

What warranty do I get?

A factory-new bike carries the manufacturer’s warranty, as stated with the bike. A premium pre-owned bike carries a twelve-month Berg en Baan warranty, on top of your statutory rights. A bike we sell on consignment, on behalf of its owner, has no warranty; this is then stated with the bike. Colnago provides a two-year manufacturer warranty on the frame, plus a third year if you register the bike at colnago.com within ten days of purchase. We supply every detail you need to do so.

What is not covered by the warranty?

A pre-owned bike carries no manufacturer's warranty, unless this is expressly stated with the bike. Visible signs of use are inherent to used bikes and give no right to a price reduction or a return; the cooling-off period for distance purchases still applies. A consignment bike has no warranty. Hidden defects that could not reasonably have been discovered on inspection are resolved in consultation; please report a defect as soon as possible, by email or WhatsApp. A warranty always applies in addition to your statutory rights.

Can I return a bike?

Yes, for a distance purchase. If you buy as a consumer via the site, WhatsApp, email or telephone, you have a 14-day cooling-off period after receipt and can cancel the purchase without giving a reason. Notify us of the return within that period via WhatsApp or email. If you have the bike collected, we schedule the collection with you within 14 days of your notice; if you bring or send the bike back yourself, you do so within 14 days of your notice. The bike must be in the condition in which it was delivered, with all accessories and documentation supplied. If you conclude the purchase on location after viewing the bike there, the cooling-off period does not apply. A bike on consignment cannot be returned.

What does a return cost?

Bringing the bike back to Son en Breugel yourself is free of charge, by appointment. If we collect the bike, we charge €250 in return costs: a bike box, collection from your address in the Netherlands or Belgium and insured transport. We set that amount off against your refund. If you send the bike yourself, you only pay your own shipping costs. If the bike is defective or was not delivered properly, we collect it free of charge. We refund the purchase amount within 14 days of your notification, using the payment method you paid with; we deduct loss in value caused by use.

Read the return policy

What applies to a bike on consignment?

We sell a bike on consignment on behalf of a private owner; this is stated with the bike. Delivery in the Netherlands and Belgium is included in the price in that case as well. The bike has no warranty and cannot be returned.

Bike scheme and business purchase

Can I buy a bike through my employer’s bike scheme?

Yes, if your employer has a bike scheme. In the Netherlands there are three routes: a company bike (your employer buys or leases the bike and you pay tax on a 7% annual benefit of the recommended retail price), the work-related costs scheme (your employer gives or reimburses the bike, often in exchange for gross salary) and an interest-free loan from your employer, which spreads the cost. All three work for a new and for a pre-owned bike; for a company bike the benefit is based on the original new price. We supply a quotation and invoice in the right name free of charge. If your employer works with a fixed leasing company, that company decides which shops you can buy from.

How the bike scheme works (in Dutch)

Can I buy a bike through my business?

Yes, as a self-employed professional, through your sole proprietorship or through your private limited company (BV). The taxable benefit is 7% of the bike’s original recommended retail price, not of the price you pay us. You receive an invoice in the name of your business: for a factory-new bike with VAT stated separately, for a pre-owned bike under the margin scheme with no VAT to reclaim. These rules apply to the Netherlands; for Belgium, see the answer below.

Company bike for business owners (in Dutch)

I live or work in Belgium. Can I buy through my employer or my business?

Yes, in the name of your employer or your business. Send us the VAT number first and you will receive a quotation. Bike leasing through a leasing company (cafeteria plan) runs in Belgium through the bike shops that company approves. We are not part of that at the moment; do let us know which company it is. If you cycle to work, your employer can in 2026 reimburse up to €0.37 per kilometre tax-free, up to €3,700 a year, for any bike. A company bike can also be exempt from benefit in kind. For both, you really cycle to work and you opt for the flat-rate professional expenses in your tax return. This is general information, not tax advice.

Selling your bike

Can I sell my bike to Berg en Baan?

Yes. Berg en Baan buys premium road bikes, gravel bikes and mountain bikes, or sells them for you on consignment for a 10% commission, with a minimum of €350. We are looking for top models from a recent model generation with an electronic groupset, such as a Specialized S-Works, a Pinarello Dogma, a Colnago, a Cervélo or a Santa Cruz, from the first owner with the original invoice in their own name. It starts with the form on the selling page, from anywhere in the Netherlands and Belgium.

Can I trade in my bike?

Yes, if it is a bike we buy; the brands and versions we look for are listed on the selling page. We then buy it when you buy from us. If not, we can often sell it for you on consignment, for a 10% commission (minimum €350). Register it via the selling form and mention in the description which of our bikes you have your eye on.

Go to the selling form

What does consignment cost?

10% commission on the sale price, with a minimum of €350. You receive your money after the sale; the further terms and costs are in our general terms and conditions, in the article on consignment.

Do I have to bring the bike myself?

You can; then no travel or shipping costs are deducted from our offer. We can also collect it within about an hour’s drive of Son en Breugel, or you ship it in a box with track and trace.

How quickly will I hear from you?

As quickly as possible after you have sent the form. A complete form with all photos is the quickest.
