What to check on a pre-owned full-suspension bike
A full-suspension bike has more moving parts than a hardtail, and those parts largely decide what a pre-owned bike is still worth.
Shock and fork. Ask when they were last serviced. Fox and RockShox specify service after a set number of riding hours; a fork that leaks oil or feels sticky as it compresses is due for a service.
Bearings. Check the bearings in the rear suspension pivots, the headset and the bottom bracket. Play, or a rough, notchy feel when they turn, means they need replacing.
Frame. Look for cracks, dents and deep scratches, especially around the pivots, the shock mount and the underside of the down tube.
Size. A mountain bike fits by reach and saddle height. Compare the size with your current bike; a good price in the wrong size is no bargain.

What makes a good pre-owned mountain bike?
One that fits, with suspension that has been serviced on time and a frame without damage. After that come the groupset (SRAM Eagle or Shimano XT/XTR), the brakes and the wear on bearings, chain and cassette. For every pre-owned mountain bike at Berg en Baan, the wear we found during inspection is stated in the description.
What is the difference between full-suspension and hardtail?
A full-suspension mountain bike has both a suspension fork and rear shock — ideal for technical trail riding, enduro and varied terrain. A hardtail has only a suspension fork — lighter, more efficient and popular for XC and beginners. Full-suspension is more comfortable and provides more grip on challenging terrain.
What does a mountain bike cost at Berg en Baan, new or pre-owned?
The premium pre-owned mountain bike currently for sale is priced at €4,395. There is no factory-new mountain bike for sale right now. Delivery in the Netherlands and Belgium is included in that price. Where the original retail price is known, it is shown with the bike, together with the percentage by which our price is below it.
Which wheel size is best for a mountain bike?
29-inch wheels roll faster and climb obstacles better — ideal for XC and trail. 27.5-inch (650b) is quicker in corners with a more playful character — popular for enduro. Mullet (29 front, 27.5 rear) combines the best of both worlds.
Can you advise on the right mountain bike size for my height?
Yes. Every mountain bike listing states the frame size and the rider height it is intended for. If you are between two sizes, compare the reach with that of your current bike, or send us your height, your inside leg and the frame size of your current bike (brand, model and year) via WhatsApp.
