Trade-in

Trade in your road bike for another bike from our collection

At Berg en Baan in Son en Breugel you trade in your road bike towards a bike from our collection, new or premium pre-owned. If your road bike, gravel bike or mountain bike fits what we buy, we assess whether we take it in with your purchase. If we do, you pay the difference. You register with the form.

Can I trade in my road bike for a new bike?

Yes, if your road bike fits what we buy; after our assessment we let you know whether we take it in with your purchase. You choose a bike from our collection, new or premium pre-owned. Register your bike with the form on our selling page, choose the trade-in option and name the bike you have in mind in the notes.

  • The bike you choose must be for sale: not sold and not reserved.
  • The online estimate of your trade-in value and top-up exists in Dutch only. In English you register with the form, and we assess your details and photos.

Can I trade in my road bike for a gravel bike?

Yes, the kind of bike does not have to be the same, as long as your own bike fits what we buy. You can trade in a road bike for a gravel bike, or a mountain bike for a road bike. The sum for the top-up stays the same as for any other trade-in.

  • In the form you choose the kind of your own bike and fill in brand, model and groupset; for a mountain bike we also ask about the suspension.

How is the trade-in value of my road bike determined, and what do I pay on top?

Your model and groupset, its age, the kilometres and the condition of the wear parts decide the value, not just the model name. The purchase value of your bike counts as your trade-in value. What you pay on top is the price of the bike you buy minus that value.

  • Your trade-in value is not fixed in advance: it follows our assessment of your details and photos.

What counts towards the trade-in value?

Scroll the table sideways to see all columns.

SubjectWhat we look at
Model and groupsetThe version and the groupset decide the value, not just the model name.
Age and kilometresThe year of build or delivery date, and the kilometres if you know them.
ConditionChain and cassette, brake pads, brake rotors, tyres and bearings, on a mountain bike also the suspension, and whether the bike has been crashed.
Own buildWe weigh a custom build more cautiously, subject to our assessment.
Wheels and upgradesWheels, power meter, upgrades and maintenance are weighed at our assessment.

How does trading in a road bike work, step by step?

You choose a bike from our collection and register your own bike with the form, with your details, photos, frame number and invoice. After our assessment we let you know whether we take your bike in with your purchase and, if so, at what trade-in price.

  • Register: choose the trade-in option, name the bike you want in the notes, and fill in your bike’s version, groupset, wheels and the condition of the wear parts.
  • Handover: we agree with you how and when your bike comes to us and the bike you buy goes to you.

What papers and photos do I need to trade in?

You need the original invoice in your own name, the frame number and photos of your bike. We buy from the first owner and check every frame number. You take the photos with your phone: seven fixed shots, and an eighth if there is damage or wear.

  • The seven photos: the whole bike from the right and from the left, the down tube with the model name, cassette and chain, crank and rear derailleur, the frame number, and head tube with fork crown.
  • In the form you confirm that you are the rightful owner and that the invoice is in your name.

Which road bike can I trade in?

We buy premium road bikes, gravel bikes and mountain bikes: top models from a recent model generation with an electronic groupset, well maintained and with an undamaged frame, from the first owner. The brands and groupsets are listed on our selling page.

Trade-in, direct purchase or consignment: what suits me?

If you want a different bike from us and yours fits what we buy, we assess whether trading in is possible: you then only pay the difference. If you mainly want to sell your bike, you choose direct purchase or consignment. The comparison of those routes, including selling it yourself, is on our selling page.

  • Direct purchase: you sell your bike to us, with no commission, if it fits what we buy.
  • Consignment: we sell it on your behalf, if we accept the order, for a fixed commission on the selling price. What it costs and what you keep is on the consignment page.

Frequently asked questions about trading in

Can I trade in my road bike for money?

A trade-in means the value of your road bike is set against a bike you buy from us. If you want money, you choose direct purchase, if your bike fits what we buy, or consignment, if we accept the order.

Can I trade in my mountain bike for a road bike?

Yes, the kind of bike does not have to be the same. You choose a road bike from our collection and register your mountain bike with the form, including the condition of the suspension. After our assessment we let you know whether we take it in.

Can I trade in my road bike if I live in Belgium?

Yes, as a private individual you can register from anywhere in the Netherlands and Belgium, and we deliver the bike you buy in both countries, delivery included in the price. If you are a business, please contact us first.

Do I have to have bought my road bike from you?

No. We look at whether it fits what we buy and whether you are the first owner, with the original invoice in your own name.
