How Berg en Baan works

Not everything for sale makes the cut. Berg en Baan only buys mountain bikes, road bikes and gravel bikes from premium brands, no more than 3 to 4 years old. A bike with crash damage, unclear provenance or no proof of purchase is not bought — there is no fixing that afterwards.

Every bike is technically inspected and repaired where needed before it goes on sale. Wear parts are assessed, the bike is cleaned, and its condition is recorded in three levels — excellent, very good or good — with an explanation of what that means in practice. Signs of use are stated, not polished away.

Every bike is photographed in-house against a neutral background: the complete bike from several angles, plus close-ups of the components. No manufacturer stock shot, no snapshot against a shed door. That is not cosmetics but transparency: on a plain background and at full resolution you can see scratches, wear and which parts are actually fitted — more than any classified photo will ever show.

Every bike lists model year, frame size with the rider height it is meant for, weight, distance ridden, colour, condition and the full component list as fitted. That last point is the one that matters: on a used bike the actual build often differs from the manufacturer’s spec for that model, because parts have been replaced or upgraded. We list what is on it, not what was supposed to be.

Alongside the asking price, every bike shows the original retail price and how far below it you are buying. That makes the actual depreciation visible — a comparison you would otherwise have to work out yourself.

Berg en Baan delivers throughout the Netherlands and Belgium, with delivery costs included in the price. Distance selling comes with the statutory 14-day cooling-off period. Questions about a bike are answered fastest via WhatsApp, usually within a few hours.

There are two routes. With a direct purchase Berg en Baan buys the bike from you outright. With consignment the bike stays yours and is sold on your behalf — with the same photography and documentation, for a commission on the sale price. Both start with the form on the selling page.
