How Berg en Baan works

Not everything for sale makes the cut. Berg en Baan only buys mountain bikes, road bikes and gravel bikes from premium brands. A bike with crash damage, unclear provenance or no proof of purchase is not bought — there is no fixing that afterwards.

Berg en Baan also sells factory-new bikes: never ridden, exactly as they left the factory. They are offered below the retail price because the model year is coming to an end or the model has been superseded, never because of their condition. They carry the manufacturer's own warranty instead of our twelve months, and you get an invoice in your name with VAT stated separately. Apart from that, the same applies as for the rest: the full component list is included and we deliver the bike ourselves. If a new bike has not yet been in our studio, we show the manufacturer's product photos. Each listing states whether the bike is available for immediate delivery or expected.

Every premium pre-owned bike gets a technical and visual check before it is sold. The frame number is checked, and we only buy from the first owner, with proof of purchase. Its condition is recorded in three levels — excellent, very good or good — with an explanation of what that means in practice. Signs of use are stated, not polished away.

Every pre-owned bike is photographed in-house against a neutral background: the complete bike from several angles, plus close-ups of the components. No manufacturer stock shot, no snapshot against a shed door. That is not cosmetics but transparency: on a plain background and at full resolution you can see scratches, wear and which parts are actually fitted — more than any classified photo will ever show.

Every bike lists model year, frame size with the rider height it is meant for, weight, colour, condition and the full component list as fitted. That last point is the one that matters: on a pre-owned bike the actual build often differs from the manufacturer’s spec for that model, because parts have been replaced or upgraded. We list what is on it, not what was supposed to be.

Alongside the asking price, every bike shows the original retail price and how far below it you are buying. That makes the actual depreciation visible — a comparison you would otherwise have to work out yourself.

WhatsApp is the quickest route for any question, and it is also where you make the appointment to view a bike in Son en Breugel. That applies to every bike, factory-new or pre-owned; a bike that is still expected can be viewed as soon as it has arrived. You agree the purchase via WhatsApp or e-mail. Where the order button is shown with the bike, you can also order directly and receive the invoice by e-mail. After payment the bike is delivered or you collect it; delivery in the Netherlands and Belgium is included in the price. Distance selling comes with the statutory 14-day cooling-off period. If you buy on location after viewing the bike, that period does not apply. A bike we sell on consignment, on behalf of a private owner, is delivered at no extra cost as well, but has no warranty and cannot be returned; this is then stated with the bike.

There are two routes. With a direct purchase Berg en Baan buys the bike from you outright. With consignment the bike stays yours and is sold on your behalf — with the same photography and documentation, for a commission on the sale price. Both start with the form on the selling page.
